The School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) is host to the Association of Southern African Schools and Department of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM) Annual Conference.

Theme: Governance in action – Policy, politics and public administration in flux

This overarching theme centres on the evolving landscape of public administration in the face of technological advancements, social change, and global challenges. It encompasses the transformation of public service delivery, the integration of artificial intelligence, democratic processes, governance reforms, sustainable development, resilience in rural communities, climate governance, local government stability, ethical considerations, innovative education approaches, and employee well-being. Within this theme, the focus is on how public administration must adapt, innovate, and incorporate emerging technologies and policies to address the complex issues of the modern world, fostering inclusive, sustainable, and ethical practices for the future.

• Sub-theme 1: Professionalising the public sector through curriculum review and innovative teaching
pedagogies
• Sub-theme 2: Artificial Intelligence (AI), ethics and public values
• Sub-theme 3: Reforms for sustainable governance: national, provincial and local

Submission Guidelines

ABSTRACTS
• Abstract should not exceed 500 words
• Each submission will undergo a thorough review process by our expert committee
• Clearly label your abstract: Surname, Initials and subtheme e.g. VanDijk G Sub-theme 3

PAPERS
• Papers should be original and previously unpublished
• For papers to be considered for publications, the Administratio Publica editorial policy and publication guide-
lines should be followed
